After 10 days and 1,630 nautical miles of intense competition, on March 4, 10 yachts competing in the 2025-26 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, including Team Qingdao, Team Tongyeong,Team GOSH Charity,Team Scotland,Team Yacht Club Punta del Este,Team Warrant, and Team UNICEF, all arrived in Qingdao and docked at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center Marina, marking the official entry of this world’s top round-the-world sailing event into “Qingdao Time”.

At around 4 p.m. that day, accompanied by rousing sailing songs and long horn blasts, Qingdao, skippered by Captain Philip Quinn, sailed into the port last. Ambassador crew members Lan Jun, Sun Kaidi, and Tian Yihong returned home in glory. Local citizens and tourists waved flags, cheered, and greeted the sailing warriors with the warmest applause.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the partnership between Qingdao and the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. To welcome this old friend of two decades, a distinctive welcoming ceremony was held for each fleet after arrival and port inspection. Folk performances such as yangko dance, dragon and lion dances were staged one after another, integrating “Chinese style, Qingdao flavor, and international glamour” throughout the reception, fully demonstrating the hospitality, enthusiasm and inclusiveness of Qingdao.

At the start of their cooperation in the 2005-06 race, Qingdao named a large yacht after the city, and Qingdao officially set sail and gained worldwide fame. Over the past 20 years, Qingdao has sailed more than 400,000 nautical miles, becoming the most recognizable, communicative and influential global mobile promotional symbol of the “Sailing City”.

In addition, all 10 Clipper 70-foot yachts are made in Qingdao. Since their debut in the 2013-14 race, they have served the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race safely for 14 years, with their performance and quality highly recognized internationally. A new generation of 12 Qingdao-built 72-foot ocean racing yachts is scheduled to be fully put into use in the new 2027 season, signifying that Qingdao’s marine equipment manufacturing has moved from local production to global recognition, further polishing the gold-lettered signboard of “Made in Qingdao”.

It is reported that the 2025-26 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race officially set off from Portsmouth, the UK, on August 31, 2025 local time. The race consists of 8 legs and 13 individual stages, with a total distance of 40,000 nautical miles, lasting nearly 11 months and expected to finish in July 2026. As one of the world’s key stopover cities, Qingdao is the 8th stop of this round-the-world voyage. The race has attracted 10 teams comprising more than 700 sailing enthusiasts from over 50 countries and regions.
